Officers responded Wednesday night to reports of gunfire in East Nashville.  They arrived on South Fifth Street around 8:40 p.m. and found three people wounded from gunshot injuries.  A fourth victim later arrived at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown.

One of the victims died from their injuries while the other three were treated for noncritical wounds.  Police believe the shooting occurred somewhere along Sylvan Street, spanning from the Fifth Street intersection toward Seventh Street.

Investigators said there was likely some type of altercation before the shots were fired, though they are still trying to determine exactly what happened.  There were no confirmed witnesses who saw the shooting firsthand, but people in the area heard gunfire and called 911.

The Metro Nashville Police Department’s Homicide and TITANS units are on scene working the case.  They are asking anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.
