A Nashville man has been arrested on felony theft charges after investigators say he stole more than 140 cast iron water meter covers and sold them for scrap metal.

According to Metro Nashville Police, 32 year old Charles Hunt Jr. is accused of taking a total of 141 water meter covers that belong to Metro Water Services. Investigators say he used the covers as extra weight in scrap metal loads, then sold them across 17 separate transactions at a recycling facility.

Police say surveillance footage helped connect the suspect’s vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, to the thefts. The total value of the stolen covers is estimated at around $9,250.

Authorities say the investigation shows a pattern of repeated thefts rather than a single incident, leading to the felony charge.

Hunt was taken into custody and is facing prosecution for the alleged thefts.
