Tennessee’s first Wawa now has an official opening date, bringing the chain closer to its planned Middle Tennessee expansion.

The Clarksville location will open to the public on Thursday, June 18, marking the company’s first store in the state.

The East Coast convenience store and gas station chain first announced its plans in 2022 to enter the Nashville market, with long-term goals of opening up to 40 locations across Middle Tennessee. Wawa currently operates in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, D.C.

Construction began last summer with initial groundbreakings in Clarksville and Murfreesboro, followed by a third site in Antioch. The Clarksville store, located at 1290 Parkway Place, will be the first of six Tennessee locations expected to open by the end of the year, according to the company.

“We are excited to bring our unique combination of fresh food and beverage, convenience and service to Tennessee for the very first time,” Wawa President Brian Schaller said in a statement. “This milestone marks our expansion into our 14th state and reflects our continued growth as we create new jobs, strengthen community partnerships, and serve more customers.”
