A Nashville-based animal rescue is celebrating a happy ending after a group of puppies were found abandoned at a Dickson County cemetery over the weekend.
Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue says a concerned community member emailed them after discovering the pups had been dumped at Sugg Cemetery, located near Woods Valley Road. Two volunteers responded and searched the area until the dogs were found and secured.
“Just tiny pups with no clue the people in whose home they were born would coldly drive them to a cemetery and dump them,” the organization wrote. “Only because a kind soul emailed us about their plight and only because two amazing volunteers went to search for them are they safe.”
Once recovered, volunteers spent time carefully removing hundreds of ticks from the small dogs before a foster family stepped in to take them in, giving the rescue some much-needed relief. The organization noted they are currently “absolutely drowning” in animals in need of care.
The rescue made clear that these puppies will be spayed or neutered before adoption, and that potential adopters will go through a thorough screening process. They are also asking the public for help locating the mother dog, saying she deserves a proper home and, at the very least, needs to be spayed to prevent the cycle from continuing.
“One thing is for certain, the cycle stops here,” the rescue said.
Anyone with information on the mother dog’s whereabouts is encouraged to reach out to Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue directly.
