NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) On Thursday, Nashville will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial by the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. The event takes place in front of the memorial on the south side of 3rd Avenue at the bottom of the Pedestrian Bridge, and attendance is open to the public.

The ceremony is being held to mark 24 years since nearly 3,000 lives were lost in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City.  Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell is expected to offer remarks as part of the program.

In addition to Mayor O’Connell, fire officials including Chief William Swann of the Nashville Fire Department will participate.  The gathering provides a moment for community members to honor those who died, to remember the occasion, and to reflect.

The ceremony’s location outside the symphony center makes it accessible, and the event aims to bring together city leaders and the public.  The memorial setting underlines the solemn nature of the occasion and underscores the city’s ongoing remembrance of September 11.
