A 64-year-old Antioch man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after prosecutors said he sexually exploited a 14-year-old girl in Colombia.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, Ramon Arellano Sandoval was convicted earlier this year on charges of attempted sex trafficking of a minor and attempted production of child sexual abuse material.

Investigators said Sandoval exchanged thousands of text and video messages with the underage victim over several months while knowing she was only 14 years old. Prosecutors said he repeatedly asked the girl to send sexually explicit videos and sent electronic payments in exchange for the material.

Authorities said the case escalated when Sandoval traveled from the United States to Colombia, where prosecutors said he engaged in commercial sex acts with the minor.

A federal jury found him guilty in February 2026. U.S. District Judge Rodolfo A. Ruiz II later sentenced him to 360 months, or 30 years, in federal prison.

Federal officials said the investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations in Miami. Prosecutors described the crimes as predatory and said the victim was targeted and exploited both online and in person.

Sandoval had faced the possibility of life in prison on the sex trafficking charge.
