A house in Smyrna caught fire Monday afternoon and is now the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Smyrna Fire Department. The blaze broke out around 3:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Highland Avenue.
When firefighters arrived they encountered heavy smoke and flames emanating both from the front and back of the structure. Officials conducted a thorough search of the home but found no occupants inside at the time.
The fire was aggressively attacked and contained to a converted garage space, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the house. Fire crews were able to limit damage to that section.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze. The Smyrna Fire Department has not yet released details on what may have triggered the fire or whether any foul play is suspected.
