Two lanes blocked after early morning wreck in Rutherford County

Heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning created hazardous conditions on roadways across Middle Tennessee. At about 5:45 a.m., the Tennessee Department of Transportation received reports of a collision affecting Interstate 24 East in Rutherford County.

The crash happened at Exit 66, the Sam Ridley Parkway exit. It involved a small white vehicle and a tanker truck.  The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest in the left two lanes of I-24 East.

Authorities from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and local police responded and blocked both left lanes at that location.  Drivers traveling eastbound were forced to slow down while navigating the remaining open lanes.

Motorists are being urged to drive carefully during the wet conditions. Reducing speed and allowing extra travel time is advised.  Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
