Voices for a Safer Tennessee, known as Safer TN, is expanding its work by creating two independent organizations. The nonprofit focuses on firearm safety in a nonpartisan way. The new organizations will help Safer TN extend its mission throughout Tennessee.

One of the new organizations is the education arm of Safer TN. It is set up as a tax-exempt nonprofit and will concentrate on education and outreach using partnerships, events, and presentations. Its goal is to raise awareness, share data-driven solutions, and engage communities across the state so that preventable tragedies involving firearms can be reduced.

The second organization is the advocacy arm of Safer TN. It will focus on advancing policies through work at the Capitol. It plans to build strong relationships with lawmakers and push for reasonable firearm safety legislation. The advocacy arm will also have an important role during election cycles as it engages with policy issues.

Each of the two new divisions will have its own leadership board and operate independently from each other. Claudia Huskey, Executive Director of Safer TN, said the dual focus on education and advocacy will strengthen their impact both among the public and in policy discussions. She emphasized that the education arm will help inform gun owners and communities and the advocacy arm will lead strategic policy conversations at the state level.
