A Metro Nashville Police Department officer was hurt Wednesday morning while trying to arrest a suspect in a hit-and-run crash in South Nashville. She was stationed in front of Una Elementary School monitoring school drop-off zone as part of the School Safety Initiative when she was alerted by parents about a nearby collision. The incident unfolded less than a mile away, near Murfreesboro Pike and Ransom Place. Witnesses reported that a large truck had struck a car before fleeing the scene. Police confirmed that multiple vehicles at the intersection showed signs of damage.
Upon being notified of the hit-and-run, the officer located a man matching the suspect’s description near the scene and attempted to detain him. In the process, the suspect resisted arrest and physically struck the officer. Police later noted that the man was restrained with the help of several citizens who had come to assist.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity at this time. However, they did confirm that he is now facing multiple charges stemming from the incident.
