A 71-year-old woman was attacked by a pack of dogs in Monroe County on Saturday. The incident occurred at a residence in the area and prompted an immediate response from authorities and bystanders after the woman was found injured on her front porch.

According to Sheriff Tommy Jones, deputies discovered the victim with multiple severe cuts. Witnesses reported that about 10 to 15 pit bull mix dogs were involved in the attack. Thankfully, other community members and bystanders were able to intervene and corral the dogs away from her.

The woman was treated at the scene for her wounds before being transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for further care. Her condition after being taken to the hospital has not been disclosed.

Investigators and animal control officers responded to the scene and subsequently filed charges. Four individuals Clayton Warren Davis, Sara June Burris, Ricky Lee Burris, and Sheila Jenene Kryzak were charged with allowing animals to be at large resulting in serious injury, a Class E felony. Sara Burris also faces additional charges related to drug paraphernalia and introducing contraband into a penal facility.

Animal control also removed 27 dogs from a nearby home as part of the investigation. Authorities noted that more charges may be forthcoming pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
