Teen Shot at Cumberland View Apartments Has Died After Months in Critical Care

Seantrez Smith, 19, passed away on June 18, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, following a near six‑month battle with injuries sustained in a shooting at Cumberland View Apartments on December 22, 2024.

According to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, Smith was walking out of an apartment when three masked gunmen emerged from a breezeway, opened fire, and fled on foot. Witnesses initially reported hearing 20–30 shots in the parking lot.

Smith was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and remained in critical care until his death. His case was covered by Cat Ansar in Hoodline, who reported the community’s reaction and noted that Metro Police are still actively investigating the shooting.

Residents in the area have expressed growing fear since the shooting, with many saying they’ve altered their routines and avoid being outside at night.
