A tragic incident occurred in Nashville on Sunday evening, June 8, 2025, when 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing 3rd Avenue North near Van Buren Street. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), Dobbins was in a marked crosswalk at approximately 7:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 24-year-old man, failed to yield the right of way. The collision resulted in Dobbins being transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Silverado remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. As of the latest reports, no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. MNPD has indicated that the preliminary contributing factor appears to be the driver’s failure to yield to the pedestrian.

This incident highlights the ongoing concerns regarding pedestrian safety in Nashville. In recent months, there have been several similar cases, including a fatal hit-and-run on Thompson Lane in December 2024 and another pedestrian death on Murfreesboro Pike in January 2025. These events underscore the need for increased awareness and enforcement of traffic laws to protect pedestrians.

The community has expressed deep sorrow over Dobbins’ death, with many calling for improved infrastructure and stricter traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies. As investigations continue, local authorities are urging drivers to exercise heightened caution, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic. The MNPD has not released further details, but the case remains under active investigation.
