Deputy Landon Faulkner, 24, was driving on Highway 111 on Wednesday evening when his patrol vehicle collided with a disabled pickup truck that was stopped in a travel lane. The impact caused severe damage, and Faulkner was critically injured at the scene.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities said Faulkner had been with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office since 2022. Before that, he served in Grundy County as both a deputy and corrections deputy for nearly three years. He also graduated from the Knoxville Police Department Explorer Cadet program in 2017.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, including how the disabled vehicle ended up in the travel lane and the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Officials from the sheriff’s office have asked the public to keep his family, friends, and fellow deputies in their thoughts as the investigation continues.

No additional details have been released at this time.
