Weather officials have issued First Alert Weather Days in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky through Wednesday. The concern rises from multiple rounds of strong thunderstorms expected to move through the region. Storms are likely in the afternoons and may linger into the early evening hours. All residents are encouraged to stay alert and watch for updates.

Although the probability of a severe event is low each day the risk is not zero. On a scale of one out of five this week’s threat is rated at one. Even with that moderate overall risk any thunderstorm may bring heavy rainfall. Low lying or poor drainage areas are especially vulnerable to flooding during the downpours.

Strong wind gusts of over 50 miles per hour are possible in some storms. While hail or tornadoes are not currently forecasted officials say they do not expect those at this time. The main hazard remains heavy rain and damaging wind.

Residents are urged to take normal precautions. Make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts. Avoid being outside in open areas during storms. Do not drive through standing water. Stay weather ready through the afternoon and early evening each day until Thursday.
