In a heartbreaking turn of events Saturday, a disagreement over rent payments at the Preakness Apartments on Bell Road in Antioch ended with a 26-year-old man shot dead.

According to Metro Nashville police, officers were called around 10:30 a.m. on July 5 to reports of a shooting. They found the victim a 26‑year‑old Bahamian man in the breezeway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center but did not survive.

The suspect, a 31-year-old man who surrendered at the scene, is reportedly in a relationship with the victim’s roommate. Police discovered both men were armed and that the rent dispute may have escalated into violence. Witnesses confirmed tensions over unpaid rent leading up to the shooting.

Details remain limited as authorities continue to investigate whether the victim fired shots in self-defense. The suspect is being held at MNPD headquarters, pending formal charges once interviews are complete.
