Flooding and a landslide have disrupted travel in Sevier County, Tennessee. Officials say several roads are closed due to flooding, and a landslide has forced the closure of the Gatlinburg Bypass. The National Park Service reported that heavy rainfall triggered the landslide, which rendered the bypass impassable until further notice.

At around 12:30 p.m., Sevier County Emergency Management announced that Wiley Oakley Drive at Sunset Lane, Ridge Road at Sevier Solid Waste, and Burden Hill Road at Eastgate Road were all shut down because of flood damage.  The bypass closure adds to the travel disruption already caused by the flooding.

The National Park Service emphasized that the landslide resulted from relentless rainfall over the area.  A flash flood warning is also active in Sevier County until 2 p.m. to alert residents and travelers to ongoing dangers.

Officials did not immediately release further details about when the bypass might reopen or how severe the damage is.  The situation is still developing, and more updates are expected.
