More remains have been discovered in Springfield after a skull and leg bone were found over the weekend. The original remains were located near Sulphur Fork Creek, close to the Greenway, prompting further investigation by local authorities.
On October 4 and 5, the Springfield Police Department received reports of possible human remains in the creek area. Following those reports, crews deployed an underwater search team along with K9 cadaver units to comb the area more thoroughly. Bones recovered from the water have since been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for analysis.
So far, no identifications have been made public for any of the remains discovered. A city statement noted that all recovered remains showed signs of decomposition. The skull and leg bone have been confirmed as human, but other items remain under review and will require lab testing to determine their origin.
Officials caution that in extensive searches like this, many items initially thought to be human remain unidentified until they are examined in a lab. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released once the medical examiner’s report is complete.
