Several residents in Antioch were ordered to leave their homes Thursday morning after a gas leak was detected near Nolensville Pike. The leak was reportedly coming from a construction site located at the intersection of Celebration Way and Barnes Road. Witnesses said they heard a loud hissing sound and smelled a strong odor of gas just prior to alerts sent to nearby households.
One resident, Daniela, recalled hearing the noise around 9:45 a.m. She described the moment when emergency crews arrived and began notifying people to evacuate. While some told her to leave, others were instructed to stay indoors if possible. “The fire department rolled around and started telling people to evacuate. I have two dogs. Where am I supposed to go. They said as long as you stay inside your house you should be fine,” she said.
Because of the leak, traffic in the area was rerouted and nearby neighborhoods were affected by the emergency response. The construction project in question involves widening Nolensville Pike, adding two lanes in each direction from Burkitt Road to Old Hickory Boulevard. Daniela noted that since work began, her community has frequently dealt with disruption, such as fallen trees and water main breaks.
By just before noon, crews had completed repairs to the gas leak and the evacuation orders were lifted. The cause of the leak has not yet been officially determined. While residents hope no further incidents occur, the larger construction project is expected to continue through July 2027.
