A man has been arrested in Nashville after allegedly punching several people and leaving one man unconscious downtown. Metro Nashville Police said the attacks took place on Lower Broadway. The suspect, identified as Kevin Campbell, was caught after police reviewed surveillance video.

The first assault happened outside “The Stage on Broadway” on the night of August 9. According to police the victim was struck without warning and collapsed on the sidewalk. Bystanders rushed to help the man who had been knocked out.

Less than two hours later Campbell allegedly attacked another person at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Broadway. He reportedly made a comment to a woman walking there with her partner before hitting her partner in the face and then walking away. Officers apprehended Campbell shortly afterward.

In recent weeks police data show 48 violent offenses in the downtown area, including 42 aggravated assaults. Some people spoken to said they were surprised by the incidents but still feel relatively safe downtown. Campbell has been charged with one count of aggravated assault. He remains in custody on a bond of ninety thousand dollars. His court appearance is scheduled for September 17.
