A fire at Tobacco Brew & Chew in La Vergne caused heavy smoke damage late Monday night. Firefighters arrived just after 9 p.m. on Murfreesboro Road in response to reports of smoke coming from the front of the store. A road in the area was temporarily closed while crews worked at the scene.

Within about ten minutes of arriving firefighters had the blaze under control. One person who was inside the tobacco store was evacuated safely. Employees and others in the little Caesars nearby also left the building while smoke spread through the area.

Fire officials gained entry into the neighboring Boost Mobile store inside the same structure. They found no one inside at that location. According to Battalion Chief Cody Wilson there is heavy smoke damage at the tobacco store. The full extent of damage is still unknown until deeper investigation is complete.

A total of sixteen La Vergne fire crew members responded. Four suppression units and one truck joined the effort. Mutual aid came from the Town of Smyrna Fire Department and from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services. A Rutherford County Fire Department investigator will assist in determining the cause of the fire.
