UT faculty member faces firing over social media comments

The University of Tennessee has announced that a faculty member will likely be fired after endorsing violence and murder. This decision follows complaints about comments made by an assistant professor regarding the death of Charlie Kirk. Although the university has not publicly identified which staff member is under investigation Representative Tim Burchett of Knoxville said he became involved after seeing screenshots of those comments.

The troubling remarks appeared in a Facebook post about Kirk. The assistant professor allegedly said that “the world is better off without him in it” and criticized Kirk’s wife for being married to him. Screenshots of those remarks were shared on social media and drew public attention.

University of Tennessee officials responded swiftly. The faculty member in question has been removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave. Termination proceedings have begun. UT System President Randy Boyd emphasized that celebrating or advocating for violence has no place at the university.

In response Turning Point USA’s University of Tennessee chapter issued a statement calling for immediate and decisive punishment. The faculty handbook available online does not explicitly include social media rules but requires faculty to maintain general professionalism. The incident is under investigation and the university says it will address the matter fully and with serious attention.
