A two-vehicle crash on Highway 76 in Springfield claimed the life of a woman on Friday, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The collision occurred when a Chevrolet Silverado crossed the double yellow line and struck a Ford Bronco head-on in the westbound lanes. After impact, the Silverado rolled onto its roof and the Bronco spun before coming to a stop on the right shoulder.

The woman who died has been identified as 59-year-old Kathy Burns of Tennessee. She was driving the Silverado.  Two people in the Bronco were injured in the crash. They are 25 and 22 years old, and they were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of how the Silverado came to cross the center line. Preliminary reports from Smokey Barn News indicate that the driver veered into the oncoming lane before the collision.  No other information has yet been released about whether speed, impairments or road conditions contributed.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported. The collision prompted traffic delays on Highway 76 while crews cleared the wreckage. The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the crash.
