Hendersonville officer hit while directing traffic

A Hendersonville police officer was struck by a vehicle Thursday night while directing traffic at Drakes Creek Park. The incident took place just after 7 p.m. and was confirmed by Lieutenant Neal Harris of the Hendersonville Police Department. The collision resulted in minor injuries for the officer, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. 

Lieutenant Harris described the event as purely accidental. Because of that determination the driver was not arrested but still received a citation for the incident. 

Officials say the officer was performing his duties managing traffic flow when the driver hit him. The setting was a public area, and there were no indications of malicious intent. 

The focus now is on the officer’s recovery and reviewing safety procedures for traffic control assignments. Hendersonville Police Department has not announced any changes yet but may use this incident as a learning opportunity.
