Coffee County deputies warn of fake FedEx text scam

Published on

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is alerting residents to a new scam involving deceptive FedEx delivery messages. Several individuals in the area have received texts suggesting they need to click a link to reschedule a missed FedEx delivery. Authorities warn that these links are fraudulent and should not be clicked.

The sheriff’s office emphasized in a Facebook post that the suspicious link does not lead to the official FedEx website. Instead, it is designed to steal personal information or install malware on the recipient’s device.

To help residents stay vigilant, CCSO provided guidance on how to report phishing attempts. Suspicious messages can be forwarded to the Federal Trade Commission via reportfraud.ftc.gov or sent to SPAM (7726). Residents were also reminded not to respond to scam messages, and to always verify delivery notices through trusted sources such as the official FedEx app or website.

This alert underscores the growing threat of “smishing” scams delivered via text messages rather than email. In recent years, FedEx and other delivery services have increasingly warned customers that they will never request sensitive information or payment through unsolicited texts. Consumers are advised to stay cautious and think twice before clicking on links received unexpectedly.
