Teen Accused in Pedestrian Bridge Attack Turned In by Mother

A 17-year-old was arrested this morning in connection with an attack on Nashville’s pedestrian bridge. The Metro Nashville Police Department reports that detectives showed up at the teen’s home overnight after his mother recognized him in a news image related to the incident and alerted authorities.

The youth was subsequently charged with aggravated assault and unlawful gun possession. His arrest occurred at his residence, and he remains the only person in custody at this time. Meanwhile, detectives continue to investigate and attempt to identify the remaining four suspects believed to be involved in the assault.

According to officials, three victims and witnesses were standing on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge around 1:15 am. When the group of four approached them. At least some of the suspects were armed. The victims reported being threatened, with one individual swinging a rifle like a baseball bat.

As a result of the attack, one person suffered facial injuries after being hit with the rifle, and another was struck on the head with a pistol. A third person said they were punched in the head. One of the victims, a 23-year-old man, required hospital transport by ambulance. The assailants fled the scene in a gray Chrysler 300, and authorities continue to request public assistance in identifying them by reviewing surveillance photos
