According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the incident occurred near mile marker 68 when a Dodge Ram wrecker veered off the roadway, striking a sign and a tree. The driver, identified as 68-year-old Danny E. Brown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to the crash, Brown had been reported missing by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. The discovery of his vehicle and subsequent identification occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. In response to the incident, eastbound lanes of I-24 were temporarily closed near mile marker 68 for investigation and cleanup, with all lanes reopening by 3:50 p.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the THP. At this time, there is no information suggesting that weather conditions or other vehicles contributed to the incident. Authorities are working to determine if any mechanical failure or other factors played a role.
