Teen Killed in Crash While Heading to Pick Up Girlfriend for Church

A tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning in Perry County, Tennessee, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Everett Bates. According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, Bates was en route to pick up his girlfriend for church when his vehicle veered off Highway 412 East and struck a tree around 9 a.m. The vehicle’s OnStar system activated and, unable to reach the driver, contacted 911. Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed Bates was deceased upon arrival. 

Bates was a senior at Lewis County High School. In his memory, the school community held a balloon release, honoring his life and the impact he had on those around him. Family members and friends described Bates as a young man with a bright smile and a kind heart, always ready to help others.

The Perry County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. At this time, there is no information suggesting that weather conditions or other vehicles contributed to the incident. Authorities are working to determine if any mechanical failure or other factors played a role.

This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of driving and the importance of safety on the roads. The community has rallied together to support Bates’ family during this difficult time, offering condolences and assistance as they navigate their loss.
