A Tuscumbia family is seeking answers after their 15-year-old son, August Borden, sustained serious injuries at Deshler High School last Tuesday. August, a freshman and football player, was found unconscious and unresponsive, prompting immediate CPR and airlifting to a Birmingham hospital. He suffered multiple skull and facial fractures and remained unconscious for two days. Fortunately, August has since regained consciousness and is now recovering at home.
However, his biological father, Jason Borden, is troubled by conflicting accounts of the incident. Some witnesses claim August fell down stairs, while others suggest he was attacked by another student. This inconsistency has left the family without a clear understanding of what transpired. Jason has reported the matter to Tuscumbia police, who have initiated an investigation.
Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan stated that they have not yet interviewed August due to his medical condition. He emphasized that once August is able to communicate, it will provide clarity on the situation. As of now, there is no evidence indicating criminal activity. Chief Logan also noted that school officials have been cooperative during the investigation.
Tuscumbia Mayor William Foster added that the initial 911 call described the incident as a fall, with CPR in progress and the child experiencing a seizure. He mentioned that August has limited recollection of the events, referring to Tuesday as a “blackout.” The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to uncovering the facts surrounding this troubling incident.
