A tragic shooting in Cordova, Tennessee, has claimed the life of an Ole Miss football player and left four other people injured. The incident occurred overnight outside a local gathering spot and has shocked both the Memphis area community and the wider college sports world.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire around midnight on Sunday. When they arrived, they discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of those victims, later identified as 19-year-old Walker White, a defensive lineman at the University of Mississippi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four additional victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Officials have not provided updates on their conditions, though some reports indicate at least one person suffered critical injuries. Investigators worked through the early morning hours collecting evidence, speaking with witnesses, and trying to determine what led to the violence.

The University of Mississippi confirmed White’s death in a statement, expressing condolences to his family, teammates, and all who knew him. School officials described him as a promising athlete and a beloved member of the campus community whose loss will be deeply felt.

At this time, no arrests have been announced, and authorities have not yet shared details about potential suspects or motives. The sheriff’s office has urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, emphasizing that cooperation from witnesses could help bring those responsible to justice. As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning a life cut tragically short and hoping for the recovery of those still hospitalized.
