Man Dies After Slamming Into Brick Wall and Water Main at Tennessee State University

A tragic collision occurred Sunday afternoon on Tennessee State University’s campus when a Cadillac CTS lost control and fatally injured its driver. At approximately 1:25 p.m. on July 6, 67-year-old Kenneth Fulson was traveling on 31st Avenue North when he failed to stop at the intersection with John A. Merritt Boulevard and barreled through a stop sign in front of Frederick S. Humphreys Hall  .

Fulson’s vehicle then veered onto the sidewalk, striking a water main structure before crashing into the corner of a brick wall adjacent to the building. Investigators later noted that the car’s speedometer was frozen at 60 mph, suggesting that he was traveling at high speed at the time of the incident  . Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has launched a full investigation into the events leading to the crash. As part of their inquiry, they intend to conduct toxicology tests via the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine whether alcohol, drugs, or other impairments might have contributed to the fatal accident  .

The sudden loss has shocked campus and community members alike. MNPD officials are urging anyone with information or witnesses who saw the crash to come forward to aid in their investigation. Further updates are expected once the toxicology results are finalized and additional evidence is gathered surrounding the circumstances of the crash.
