Metro Nashville Police have officially identified the man who died in a stabbing incident inside a South Nashville apartment. The victim was 61-year-old Christopher Mitchell, a Nashville resident.

Authorities report that the attack occurred late Saturday night and involved another 61-year-old man, Timothy Scarbrough, who has been arrested in connection with the case. Preliminary investigations suggest the altercation stemmed from personal suspicions.

During questioning, officers learned that Scarbrough who had been using alcohol and drugs throughout the day accused Mitchell of misappropriating his drugs and reselling them. This allegation reportedly triggered the fatal confrontation, underscoring the role of substance use in inciting violence.

The violence inflicted upon Mitchell was so severe that initially he could not be identified; staff at the scene noted there was no form of ID on him. Emergency responders and investigators eventually confirmed his identity through alternative means.

In the wake of the discovery, investigators located the murder weapon within the apartment and took Scarbrough into custody. He was formally booked on a bond set at $200,000.
