Pursuit ends after suspect tries to hit deputy with car

A dramatic moment unfolded in Trousdale County when a driver, pursued by law enforcement, swerved directly toward a deputy who was attempting to deploy spike strips. The incident was captured on dashcam video and made public on September 4, 2025. The initial pursuit began when the Smith County Sheriff’s Office reported a black Mustang with Kentucky tags on the run. Deputies then positioned themselves on Highway 25 East near Lattie Reese Road to intercept the vehicle.

As the Mustang approached, a deputy attempted to lay down spike strips to stop the vehicle. The driver responded by accelerating and steering toward the deputy in clear disregard for safety.

The situation escalated until another deputy performed a P.I.T. (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver to bring the pursuit to a close. After the Mustang came to a stop, officers forcibly removed the driver. Dashcam footage shows a deputy grabbing the driver by the collar and pulling him through the window to extract him from the car.

Following his arrest, the driver faced an array of charges. These included assault on a law enforcement officer, evading arrest using a vehicle, reckless driving, improper passing, driving without registration, and operating a vehicle without insurance. His car was impounded due to an open title. Additional charges are expected to be filed in Smith County, where the pursuit began.
