Proposed rezoning could shift elementary zones

Wilson County Schools has revealed a proposed map for rezoning in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year. The education leadership committee announced that changes could affect where some children attend elementary school in the district. Specifically, families in zones for Gladeville and Rutland Elementary Schools are likely to see the most change. Another portion of the south side of the county is under consideration for adjustments as well.

These adjustments are necessary because a new campus, Central Pike Elementary School, is scheduled to open next year. The district says that opening the new school creates an opportunity to redraw existing zones. The goal is to balance enrollment and resources across the schools in Wilson County.

To provide clarity to residents, the school district has made a proposed rezoning map available. It shows the geographical redistribution of zones that would follow the opening of Central Pike Elementary. The map highlights which areas might be moved out of existing zones and into new ones.

A community meeting is planned for Tuesday at 6 p.m. Residents with questions or concerns are invited to attend at the Wilson Central High School auditorium. During that meeting parents and community members can share feedback directly with district leaders.
