Nashville Sees Alarming Spike in Pedestrian Fatalities

Nashville is seeing a troubling spike in pedestrian deaths just months into 2026, reversing recent progress the city had made.

Metro Nashville Police report 10 pedestrians have already been killed this year, compared to just two at this point in 2025. Several other crashes have left people with life-threatening injuries.

The increase is alarming after years of improvement. The city recorded 17 pedestrian deaths in 2025, down from 26 in 2024 and 36 in 2023, partly due to its Vision Zero initiative.

Now, officials worry that progress is slipping. Police are urging both drivers and pedestrians to stay alert, warning that right-of-way does not prevent crashes.

“If current trends continue, this could be a dangerous year for pedestrians in Nashville,” authorities said.
