A hateful message was found on the campus of Meharry Medical College and is now under investigation. Metro Nashville Police say the message was written in chalk on the barrier of a parking deck. Although the message was nonviolent, the college and city leaders are treating the matter seriously. 

The graffiti used a racial slur and threatening language. It was located in a remote part of the Albion Street parking garage. College officials confirmed the message was removed immediately after discovery and that efforts were taken to increase security patrols on campus. 

Mayor Freddie O’Connell spoke out following the incident. He said that although such incidents are rare, the community should not tolerate them. He emphasized that hateful expressions must be addressed and held accountable when they move beyond internal beliefs into public acts. 

Meharry’s president also made a statement condemning the act as abhorrent. The president said the college does not tolerate hate and will defend the dignity and welfare of its community. Officials noted that Nashville conducts cooperation among police, property owners, and code enforcement to remove hateful messages quickly when they appear.
