Deadly crash closes part of I-24 near county line

A fatal crash early Wednesday morning forced officials to shut down part of Interstate 24 near the Davidson–Rutherford County line.  The collision, which involved a semi and another vehicle, occurred just after 2 a.m. near mile marker 63.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation moved swiftly to close eastbound traffic at Old Hickory Boulevard.  All eastbound motorists were rerouted off the interstate and guided back on via Waldron Road as crews responded.  The highway is expected to reopen around 8 a.m., pending clearance and investigation.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed that at least one person died as a result of the crash.  Authorities have not yet released details about the second vehicle or whether there are additional injuries.

This remains a developing story.  Investigators will continue to examine the scene, collect evidence, and provide updates as more information becomes available.
